South Side of Shack
Updated 4-Sep-2025

On the lower right side is my primary AM station.  It consists of the Collins 75A2 receiver (1952) and a Johnson Viking Valiant transmitter (1956-1962).  The boom microphone is an Electro-Voice Cardax 950.  I can also use the Astatic Silver Eagle D-104 that stands in front of the Valiant or multitude of other microphones from around the shack.  There is a switch located under the riser that allows me to instantaneously select between three active microphones on the Valiant at any time.  I use one standard three-pin connector on all my desk microphones and simply make short adapter cables that interface them to specific radios.

The lower left side is the Hallicrafters SX-115 receiver and to it's left is the matching Hallicrafters HT-32B transmitter.  This is primarily a SSB/CW station.  These have been soul-mates since 1961 when they were both pulled directly off the Hallicrafters assembly line in Chicago.  They were a gift from Bill Halligan himself to Dick Schnell (SK), K9HPD when he was first licensed.  My shack is only their second home in over sixty years!

Here is a close up (R-L) of the SX-115 Receiver & HT-32B transmitter.  The microphone is an Astatic model 77.

On the second shelf on the left side is a Clegg 99'er 6M AM transceiver (1961-62), with a Heathkit HG-10  VFO.
