During the construction of my reproduction early 1930's radio shack I began a search
for period cards to hang on the wall behind the equipment setup to add that "authentic
look". One card that was first on my list of wants was an early MSOE, then
called School of Engineering of Milwaukee, QSL. I was most happy when contacted
by Tony W2VRK about making some trades with him to help both of us in obtaining
sought after cards. Tony happened to have the MSOE card I wanted. In this 1927 card
they held the callsign 9SO. The NU in front of the call was a ham self assigned
lettering indicating North America - United States. These lettering
schemes were found necessary to avoid duplicate calls with overseas stations. Global
communications was becoming more common place. These prefixes where not government
issued! For additional history on MSOE's radio operations, including their commercial endeavors click here! |
